she lay awake on the roof gazing upon the assortment of colors the sky had gifted her with. she had convinced herself she was happy, that his presence was no longer a necessity in her life. she had grown to love another, to welcome the soul of another with open arms.

it was odd, she thought, that he kept showing up in the strangest places. he was simply everywhere, serving as a reminder of what they once were. she asked herself if this was a sign that their story wasn’t over.

she thought for a while and allowed herself to melt into the streaks of golden light above. she was at peace with herself and the world around her.

she realized that even if she was given the opportunity, their story was not worthy of a proper ending. she smiled to herself, realizing that for once, she was refraining from putting her happiness at risk.
